Important tips for visitors
The beach closes at 8 PM. Police are present at closing time. Leave before 8 PM.
Do not enter the water. Strong sea currents make swimming dangerous year-round, even when the water looks calm.
Plastic is banned on the beach. No single-use plastic bags or bottles. Use the dustbins provided.
Carry slippers, sunscreen and a water bottle. Essential for a comfortable visit, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM.
Toilets and drinking water are now available near the main entrance after the recent SMC seafront upgrades.
Food at beach stalls costs about 2× the city price. A Rs. 50 dish in Surat can be Rs. 100–120 at Dumas. Budget accordingly.
Avoid auto-rickshaws near the beach. They charge very high fares to tourists. Use Ola or a pre-booked cab instead.
Sea water recedes very far during low tide. You may need to walk 15–20 min to reach the water. The sea comes closer around 4–5 PM.
