Important tips for visitors
The beach closes at 8 PM. Police are present at closing time. Leave before 8 PM.
Do not enter the water. Strong sea currents make swimming dangerous year-round — even when the water looks calm.
Plastic is banned on the beach. No single-use plastic bags or bottles. Use the dustbins provided.
Carry slippers, sunscreen and a water bottle — essentials for a comfortable visit especially between 10 AM and 4 PM.
Toilets and drinking water are now available near the main entrance after the recent SMC seafront upgrades.
Food at beach stalls costs about 2× the city price. A Rs. 50 dish in Surat can be Rs. 100–120 at Dumas. Budget accordingly.
Avoid auto-rickshaws near the beach — they charge very high fares to tourists. Use Ola or a pre-booked cab instead.
Sea water recedes very far during low tide — you may need to walk 15–20 min to reach the water. The sea comes closer around 4–5 PM.

Dumas Beach is near the Tapi River estuary — tides affect water levels significantly. During low tide, the sea recedes very far from the shore. The water typically comes closer around 4–5 PM. This is normal and not permanent.
How crowded does Dumas Beach get?▾
Very crowded on weekends, public holidays and evenings. Sunday evenings are extremely busy with long traffic jams. For a peaceful experience, visit on a weekday morning between 6 AM and 10 AM.

Parking is currently limited and is one of the most common complaints. On weekends it fills up completely and causes traffic jams on the narrow access road. Arrive early on weekdays for easy parking. Multi-level parking is part of the upcoming SMC development plan.
